Why We Use Platinum-Cure Silicone

When you are choosing a toy that is going to be in close contact with your body, the material matters.

A lot.

Beautiful sculpting, elaborate textures and impossible fantasy anatomy are all important to us - but none of them mean much without a material we can thrust. (pun intended)

That is why Fiery Faerie toys are made from platinum-cure silicone.

It gives us the combination we want from a fantasy toy material:

• a non-porous surface
• pthalate free
• easy cleaning and sanitizing
• softness and flexibility
• durability when properly cared for

Here is what that actually means.

What Is Platinum-Cure Silicone?

Silicone does not simply start as a liquid and magically turn into a finished toy.

The material has to cure.

Platinum-cure silicone is a two-part silicone system that uses a platinum-based catalyst during the curing reaction. Once the components are mixed and allowed to cure correctly, they form the flexible solid silicone used for the finished toy.

Why Not Just Use Any Soft Material?

Many materials can be made soft and rubbery.

That does not make them interchangeable.

Adult toys can also be made from materials such as:

• TPE
• TPR
• PVC
• jelly materials
• various rubbers
• silicone blends
• and other soft plastics

Some of these materials can behave very differently from platinum-cure silicone, particularly when it comes to porosity, cleaning, longevity and storage.

We would rather know exactly what the main body of our toys is made from.

That is why platinum-cure silicone is the foundation of Fiery Faerie toys.

What Does “Body-Safe” Actually Mean?

You will see the phrase body-safe used throughout the adult toy industry.

It is useful shorthand, but it should not be treated as a magical category that tells you everything about a product.

What matters is the specific material formulation, the pigments and additives used with it, how the material is processed and what documentation exists for those components.

Likewise, terms such as “medical grade” should refer to an actual material specification or certification - not simply be used because a product is made from silicone.

For us, transparency about the material matters more than throwing impressive-sounding labels at it.

If we make a specific claim about the material used in a Fiery Faerie product, we want that claim to be something we can actually support.

Near Clear is also a platinum-cure silicone, but it has a very different visual character from our standard opaque materials.

Material Matters

Fantasy toys are supposed to be exciting.

You should be thinking about the creature, the colour, the texture and whatever questionable plans brought you to its product page.

You should not have to wonder what the mysterious rubbery material actually is.

That is why we choose platinum-cure silicone — and why we believe the material deserves just as much attention as the creature we create from it.
