How To Chose Your Fantasy Toy
How to Choose the Right Fantasy Toy
Dragons, tentacles, monsters, strange curves, impossible anatomy - choosing a fantasy toy is a big part of the fun.
But once you get past the creature design and colour, there is another question:
Which toy is actually right for you?
Fantasy toys can differ dramatically in size, shape, texture and firmness. Two toys with similar measurements can create completely different sensations, and even the same design can feel surprisingly different depending on the silicone firmness you choose.
The best way to choose is not to look for the biggest, wildest or most detailed toy.
Instead, think about what you want to feel.
This guide will walk you through the most important things to consider before choosing your next fantasy toy.
1. Choose the Right Size
Size is one of the most important decisions when buying an insertable toy.
And fantasy toys make size slightly more complicated than simply choosing between Small, Medium and Large.
Pay attention to the actual measurements on the product page.
The most useful measurements usually include:
- total length
- insertable length
- maximum diameter
-
maximum circumference
2. Decide How Much Texture You Want
Texture is one of the defining features of fantasy toys.
It is also one of the easiest things to underestimate when shopping from photographs.
Fantasy designs may include:
- ridges
- scales
- veins
- bumps
- coils
- suckers
- grooves
- raised details
- pronounced transitions between sections
Those features are not just decoration.
They can become individual stimulation points during movement.
Lower Texture
Smoother fantasy designs focus more on overall shape, curve and girth.
They may be a good choice if you:
- prefer gliding sensations
- want the shape to provide most of the stimulation
- are still discovering how much texture you enjoy
- want a more forgiving introduction to fantasy toys
Moderate Texture
Moderately textured toys add noticeable surface stimulation without making texture the entire experience.
These can be a useful middle ground if you want something clearly more adventurous than a smooth toy without immediately choosing the most extreme sculpt available.
Heavy Texture
Highly textured designs place much more emphasis on individual surface details.
Closely spaced ridges, scales, bumps or other raised features can make movement dramatically more noticeable.
If texture is one of the main reasons you are interested in fantasy toys, this may be exactly what you want.
But remember:
texture cannot be considered separately from firmness.
Which brings us to the next decision.
3. Choose Your Silicone Firmness
The exact same sculpt can feel dramatically different depending on the firmness of the silicone.
At Fiery Faerie, we offer four firmness options:
| Firmness | Shore Hardness | General Character |
|---|---|---|
| Extra Soft | 00-20 | Extremely squishy and flexible |
| Soft | 00-30 | Soft, forgiving and compressible |
| Medium | 00-50 | Balanced support and flexibility |
| Firm | 10A | Structured with pronounced texture |
As the silicone becomes firmer, it compresses less.
That means the sculpted features keep more of their original shape under pressure and generally feel more pronounced.
As a simple rule:
Softer silicone → more compression, more flexibility, gentler texture
Firmer silicone → more support, stronger pressure, more noticeable texture
Large Toy? Consider Going Softer
Size changes how firmness feels.
A large amount of silicone resists movement more than a small amount of the same silicone.
That means a thick toy in Medium can feel significantly more substantial than a thin toy poured in exactly the same Medium silicone.
For larger or very girthy designs, choosing Soft or Extra Soft can add useful compression and make the toy more forgiving.
Long and Thin Toy? Consider More Support
The opposite can happen with narrow, elongated toys.
A long, slim design in a very soft silicone may bend considerably during handling and insertion.
If you want more directional control, moving toward Medium can give the design additional structure.
Highly Textured Toy? Firmness Matters Even More
Imagine a raised ridge.
In Extra Soft silicone, the ridge can compress significantly against the body.
In Firm silicone, it keeps much more of its shape.
Same sculpt BUT Very different sensation.
If you love the appearance of a heavily textured toy but are worried that the details might be too intense, choosing a softer silicone can be an excellent way to experience the design more gently.
For a complete breakdown of all four options, see our Silicone Firmness Guide.
Remember That Size, Texture and Firmness Work Together
This is probably the single most useful principle in this guide.
Do not choose each specification independently.
A toy is the combination of all of them.
Large + Soft
A large toy can become much more forgiving when the silicone compresses.
Small + Firm
A smaller toy can still provide strong, precise stimulation when made in firmer silicone.
Heavy Texture + Soft
You retain the unusual sculpt while cushioning some of its intensity.
Heavy Texture + Firm
Maximum definition and a significantly more intense interpretation of the same surface.
Long + Extra Soft
Lots of flexibility, but potentially more bending during positioning.
Long + Medium
More support and directional control.
None of those combinations is objectively correct.
They simply serve different preferences.
Choosing Your First Fantasy Toy
If this is your first one, you do not need to overcomplicate it.
Start with a toy whose size you understand, whose shape looks manageable and whose texture genuinely appeals to you.
Most importantly, do not buy according to what you think you should be able to handle.
Buy according to the experience you actually want.
There will always be another monster waiting when you are ready to go bigger.
There Is No Universal “Best” Fantasy Toy
The best fantasy toy is not the largest.
It is not the firmest.
It is not the most complicated sculpt.
And it is definitely not whichever model somebody else says is their favourite.
The right toy is the combination of:
size + shape + texture + firmness + function + fantasy
that works for you.
Fantasy toys give you an unusual amount of freedom to explore those variables. A change in silicone firmness can transform the character of a sculpt. A different size can turn the same basic design from gentle to challenging. A ridge, knot or curve can create sensations that a conventional shape simply does not offer.
So explore the collection, read the dimensions carefully, pay attention to the shape - and choose the creature you actually want to take home.
